Grand Opening set for new hotel wings at MeadowView Marriott
On Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at 10:30am, the Kingsport Area Chamber of
Commerce will be holding a grand opening for two brand new hotel wings
at the MeadowView Marriott Conference Resort & Convention Center.‚
The $15 million expansion and renovation is estimated to generate an
additional $5 million a year in revenue for Kingsport economy.

The staff of the Public Works Department of the City of Kingsport work
very hard to provide the city with a quality trash and yard waste
collection service.‚ Last year, the city introduced the Pinpoint
GeoTech system which has mapped out the most efficient routes of
collection services for the city.‚ It has been a success and has saved
the city a noticeable amount on fuel and vehicle maintenance expenses.‚
The innovation, however, has changed the times of service in some

Kingsport Greenbelt featured in August edition of Southern Living
Kingsport ‚¬ The Kingsport Greenbelt is highlighted in an article
in the August edition of Southern Living.‚ This month Southern Living
published a bonus section called ‚¬“Tennessee Living: People &
Places‚, where The Greenbelt is featured in an article called, ‚¬“Hit the
Trail in Kingsport‚.‚ The article highlights the beautiful scenery of
the fitness trail, the many ways it is traveled.
Dobyns-Bennett students taking advantage of AP/College Credits
In 2008, DBHS saw a significant raise in the number of students
graduating with college credit.‚ More than half of the students
graduating in 2008 graduated with at least some level of college
credit.‚ Dobyns-Bennett High School offers 20 Advanced Placement
courses that include topics in English, History, Math, Science, Social
Sciences and the Fine Arts.

Meet Your Board of Mayor & Aldermen
The City of Kingsport is governed by a seven member Board of Mayor and
Aldermen, elected at-large and on a non-partisan basis for four-year
staggered terms. The exception to this rule is that the Mayor is
elected at-large for a two year term. Elections are held in May during
odd numbered years. The new Board of Mayor and Alderman are seated on 1
July of each election year.
Kingsport Presents Education Program To Harvard
Kingsport was among 16 finalists to present homegrown initiatives at
the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University on
Wednesday, May 27th.‚ Kingsport was
selected as one of the 16 finalists for the Innovations in American
Governance Award from the Ash Institute for Democratic Governance and
Innovation, which originally
