Kingsport City Schools Reducing Energy Use and Costs
KINGSPORT ‚¬ Kingsport City Schools has been placed among the top
ten school systems in the state with the lowest rate of energy use per
student, according to a report released by the Tennessee Department of
Education‚ Energy Efficient Schools Initiative.
The report noted that Kingsport City Schools has reduced energy costs
by an estimated 22% from 2003 to 2008. In 2003, Kingsport ranked 21st
of 136 systems in the state for lowest energy use per student. The
school system improved its ranking to 8th in the state in 2008.

Water line upgrades to impact traffic, service in Ridgefields area
KINGSPORT — Residents in the direct vicinity of Pendragon Road
and Forestdale Road should expect traffic delays next week as Kingsport
Water Department crews cut the asphalt at the intersection of Pendragon
and Forestdale to being installing 2000 feet of water line in the area.
Once complete, the current 4 inch line will be replaced with an 8 inch
line to provide fire protection water flow. Traffic will be interupted
from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Cutest Dog Competition is here and the Sullivan County Animal
Shelter has entered a heart-breaker named Lucy.‚ Lucy resides at the
Sullivan County Animal Shelter and is a four month old Beagle mix
Mascot. The competition is a national competition presented by All
American Pet Brands and Dog.com.‚ The competition is a twelve week
contest that began on August first and final judging will end on
Thanksgiving Day.
BMA receives plans for the new Aquatic Center
The Board of Mayor and Alderman of the City of Kingsport recently
received detailed plans and blueprints for the phased construction of
the upcoming Aquatic Center.‚ The Aquatic Center, an indoor/outdoor
water park, will be a 46,400 square foot facility that will be located
off of Wilcox Drive, across the road from MeadowView Conference
Center.‚ The center will be paired with a new 33,000 square foot YMCA
building.‚ The YMCA has agreed to operate both facilities.
Kingsport Center for Higher Education Now Open!
The Kingsport Higher Education Center has been created by a strong
relationship between city officials, local educational institutions and
local businesses.‚ The Higher Education Program has received national
recognition and the Higher Education Center will serve as the main
facility of the quickly growing Kingsport Higher Education Academic
Campus.‚ The building boasts administrative offices, state of the art
computer facilities, new congressional offices and a large auditorium,
among an array of various classrooms.
