KINGSPORT ‚¬ Keep Kingsport Beautiful, KNETIC, Citizens Bank and Phil Bachman Honda are offering an opportunity for Kingsport residents to join together and help clean up their downtown streets during the Great American Cleanup in Downtown Kingsport on Saturday, May 22 from 9 a.m to 1 p.m.
Civic, school and church organizations, boy and girl scout troops, families, individuals, and any other group are encouraged to participate in this Great American Cleanup event. Volunteers are needed to help pickup trash, pull weeds and remove debris from the alleys. ‚
Sign in will be located at the corner of Market and Broad Streets.
Summertime marks the beginning of so many events downtown, like‚ Racks by the Tracks, Railgrass, Spring into DownTown, the Twilight Alive Series and Bluegrass on Broad, the Sculpture Walk,.. and the list keeps growing. With these events come many preparations, says Paul Vachon, KNETIC past president and chair of the event.‚ Come on out for a morning of community building, spring cleaning, and a great sense of accomplishment.
Last year, more than 4 tons of trash were removed from the downtown area to prepare for the citys summer community events.
Downtown merchants are providing breakfast and lunch items, along with Chefs Pizzeria, who is treating the volunteers to pizza.
In addition to the cleanup activities, Kingsport Mayor Dennis Phillips will be proclaiming the day as Joe Wimberly Day, in memory of the longtime businessmans support and dedication to downtown Kingsport.
