| A man has been arrested after trying to kill his friend while he slept.
On January 31, 2014 at approximately 10:30 AM, Kingsport Police Detectives and Patrol Officers responded to 2182 Steadman Street in Kingsport in reference to a stabbing incident. Their subsequent investigation revealed the following: Daniel Franklin Dalton, who lists this address as well as a Church Hill address as his residence, had been living at this location with his longtime friend, Stevie Strong. At approximately 10:30 AM, Mr. Dalton suddenly, and without provocation, went into Mr. Strong’s bedroom and stabbed him multiple times in the head and chest with a folding lockback knife. Mr. Strong’s wife was asleep in bed next to him and awoke to find Mr. Dalton attacking her husband. Meanwhile, Mr. Strong’s daughter was in the kitchen, and upon hearing the commotion, came to investigate. Together, Mr. Strong’s wife and daughter were able to stop the assault and wrestle the knife away from Mr. Dalton. Mr. Dalton stated that he felt the urge, so he stabbed him. He said that he wanted to do more and acknowledged wanting to kill him. Mr. Dalton and Mr. Strong were longtime friends, and there was no indication of them having any kind of altercation or disagreement that would have led to this end. Mr. Strong received multiple stab wounds, resulting in critical injuries, and was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center Emergency Room by Sullivan County E.M.S. for treatment. Mr. Dalton was arrested for Attempted 1st Degree Murder and transported to the Kingsport City Jail where he will await arraignment. For additional information, please contact: Thomas M.
