| SUBJECT: | Suspect in Custody for Burglarizing Same Business Three Times | ||

| GENERAL NARRATIVE |
| On October 23, 2014 at approximately 10:15 PM, a suspect, later identified as Daren C. Pitts, burglarized Kingsport Exterior Vinyl Supply, located at 128 Regional Park Drive in Kingsport. Mr. Pitts accomplished this burglary by ramming his GMC Jimmy pickup into an exterior garage door of the business and then forcing open an interior office door. Mr. Pitts removed a cash drawer and then stole several new tools from a display. This is the third time this business has been burglarized in a virtually identical method, with the previous two incidents being reported on December 27, 2013 and January 20, 2014.
In this most recent incident, as well as the two previous incidents, the burglary was captured on surveillance video. In the most recent footage, surveillance cameras were finally able to capture a clear image of Mr. Pitts face. Mr. Pitts was a previous employee of this business, so current employees were able to positively identify him as the suspect in question. Two video clips of the October 23rd burglary have been made available for viewing on the K.P.D. YouTube channel via the links below. Kingsport Police Detectives were able to locate Mr. Pitts at Model City Motel, apartment #8, located at 3109 Memorial Boulevard, after his pickup was found parked in the parking lot. Upon speaking with Mr. Pitts, detectives noticed he was wearing the exact same hooded sweatshirt as he was wearing in the surveillance footage. The stolen items from the most recent burglary were located hidden under his bed. Through further investigation, detectives were able to definitively link Mr. Pitts to the earlier two burglaries. Mr. Pitts was arrested, transported to the Kingsport City Jail, and charged with: 1) 3 counts of Burglary (felony) 2) Vandalism over $500 (felony) 3) Theft over $500 (felony) 4) Theft under $500 (misdemeanor) |
