Kingsport Public Works to hold annual snow plow inspection
KINGSPORT — The Streets & Sanitation Division of Kingsports Public Works Department will host its annual Snow Plow Inspection event at noon on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014. The event will be held at the Kingsport Public Works facility at 609 West Industry Drive.
In all, Kingsport now has 32 pick-up trucks and dual-wheeled dump trucks equipped with snow plows and salt spreaders. Another three vehicles are equipped to place pre-treatment salt brine on roads prior to a snow event, according to Streets & Sanitation Manager Ronnie Hammonds.
In 2013, Kingsport used 4,700 tons of salt for now removal, and 2,800 tons of salt were applied in 2012. Over the last five years, the City has used an average of about 2,500 tons per year.
Currently, Kingsport has 3,500 tons of salt on hand, and contracts in place to procure another 4,000 tons of salt if needed.
