This exciting, new planetarium program transports viewers to Chile where the dark skies and dry, remote setting create ideal conditions for observing the Universe. Journey to three world-class observatories in Chile’s rugged Andes Mountains and arid Atacama Desert— remote, extreme regions that happen to have the perfect conditions for astronomical research. Against a backdrop of breathtaking visuals and a hypnotic soundtrack, Big Astronomy introduces the diverse people who push the limits of technology, enable scientific discovery and expand what we know about the Universe using state-of-the-art telescopes. Along the way, you’ll meet an inspiring cast of astronomers, engineers, technicians, and support staff who keep these mega-machines running.

Bays Mountain Park, in partnership with the Friends of Bays History Committee, is proud to announce a special event happening at the park – Campfire Tales with renowned storyteller Dr. Hannah Harvey.
Sessions with Dr. Harvey will take place at the park’s outdoor amphitheater on October 10th and 11th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Park admission and tickets to the sessions are free both evenings thanks to our sponsor – Knoxville TVA Credit Union.
Combining the research of Bays Mountain historians with Hannah’s energetic storytelling style, Campfire Tales is sure to be an unforgettable evening of local lore, humor, and heart. A native of our area, Dr. Harvey is excited to bring stories of our own Bays Mountain and Appalachia to life in tales you will remember every time you drive up the mountain.
The sessions are recommended for families, teens and adults with Friday’s program geared more towards kids, while Saturday’s is designed for older teens and adults.
Seating is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Sessions will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather. Free s’mores will be provided from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. and Ethan and Nora’s food truck will be on-site with hot dogs and beverages for purchase.

Through powerful dialogue and eerie, evocative performances, “Poe’s Paradox” brings to life the inner demons and disturbing ghosts that haunted Poe. The same spirits who continue to resonate with audiences today.  Experience a riveting narrative spectacle that invites you to reflect on your own encounters with darkness and despair as ghostly specters confront the audience in an immersive encounter.  Feel the intensity of this chilling play brought to life by an ominous cast and crew. Discover the depth of Poe’s literary genius and how his personal struggles influenced his eccentric works from The Fall of the House of Usher to The Raven. These and other entities from The Tell-Tale Heart, Annabel Lee, The Black Cat, and Lenore make appearances throughout the production, taunting Poe and the audience.

This production runs every weekend from October 10 to 26.  Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:00 PM, and Sunday evenings at 6:30 PM.  Because of the subject matter and intensity of the subject matter, the play is rated PG-13. Tickets are $15.

No reservations are necessary; however they are recommended for groups in order to guarantee seating together.
