NEWS RELEASE
SUBJECT: Kingsport Police Still Searching for Wanted Domestic Violence Suspect Who Evaded Traffic Stop
DATE: January 3, 2015
CASE #: 14-023121, 14-023123, and 14-023124
GENERAL NARRATIVE
The Kingsport Police Department is still in search of a felony suspect who rammed his estranged wife’s car in a December domestic violence incident and later evaded a traffic stop initiated by responding officers.

On December 15, 2014 at approximately 8:00 AM, a female domestic violence victim came to the Kingsport Justice Center to report an incident that had just occurred on East Stone Drive in Kingsport. She stated that her husband, Shawn L. Botkin, with whom she has recently separated, had chased her from Blountville to Kingsport. He was driving a compact sport utility vehicle, believed to be a Suzuki Vitara or Geo Tracker, that was two-tone green over silver in color.

She said that at approximately 7:45 AM, she was westbound on 11-W, when Mr. Botkin passed her going the opposite direction. She reported that he turned around and caught up with her as she entered the city limits of Kingsport. She said that he pulled up beside her near the intersection of East Stone Drive at Beechnut Drive and told her, “I got you.” She said that near the intersection of Indian Trail Drive he bumped her vehicle in the rear end with the front of his vehicle. She reported that Mr. Botkin continued to follow her until just before her arrival at the Kingsport Justice Center.

Sgt. Steve Summey of the K.P.D. Traffic Unit responded to the Downtown Kingsport area to be on the lookout for Mr. Botkin’s vehicle. Sgt. Summey observed the vehicle traveling on West Center Street near Lynn Garden Drive. Sgt. Summey caught up to the vehicle on West Sullivan Street and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle ran the stop sign on Sullivan Street at Donelson Drive, accelerated eastbound on Lovedale Drive at a high rate of speed, and passed another vehicle on the double yellow line. Due to the extreme reckless driving and the safety of other motorists, Sgt. Summey wisely terminated the pursuit.

Moments later, another motorist traveling on Clinchfield Street observed the suspect vehicle on Donelson Drive approaching Clinchfield Street. The motorist reported that the suspect vehicle ran the stop sign on Donelson Drive at Clinchfield Street, sideswiped his car, and continued to flee on Clinchfield Street.

Shawn L. Botkin is still at large. A warrant has been obtained charging him with:

1) Felony Reckless Endangerment

2) Felony Evading Arrest

3) Domestic Assault

4) Driving on a Revoked License

5) Leaving the Scene of an Accident

Anyone who may know where he can be located is asked to contact Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111.

Alternatively, if an individual who is able to supply information related to this or any other case wishes not to be identified, tips can be submitted anonymously via online “Citizen Feedback” forms available at the following link:

NEWS RELEASE
SUBJECT: Kingsport Police Investigating Armed Robbery at Cash for Gold Express
DATE: January 1, 2015
CASE #: 14-024183
GENERAL NARRATIVE
On December 30, 2014 at approximately 3:30 AM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers were called to Cash for Gold Express, located at 876 Lynn Garden Drive in Kingsport, in reference to an armed robbery that had occurred over 8 hours earlier. Responding officers spoke with an employee of the business who reported the following:

On December 29, 2014 at approximately 7:00 PM, the employee was in the process of closing the business for the day. As he exited the business, a suspect brandishing a black semi-automatic handgun, met him at the door and pushed him back inside. The suspect was described as a male wearing a black ski mask and an olive green hooded sweatshirt.

The suspect escorted the employee to the bathroom, took his wallet and watch, tied him up, and instructed him to not leave the room. Not knowing whether or not the suspect had left, the employee remained in the bathroom for several hours before eventually breaking free from his restraints and calling 9-1-1.

The employee discovered that in addition to his wallet and watch, the suspect had also stolen an unspecified amount of cash, assorted articles of jewelry, and a laptop computer.

K.P.D. Detectives are soliciting any leads that may assist them with developing a suspect in this incident. Tips may be called in to the Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or to Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111.

DATE: December 31, 2014
CASE #: 14-024242
GENERAL NARRATIVE
On December 31, 2014 at approximately 2:00 AM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers were dispatched to an armed robbery at Zoomers, located at 1673 Fort Henry Drive in Kingsport. When the clerk questioned if he was serious, the suspect produced a handgun and threatened to shoot her if she did not comply. The clerk then gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money, and he fled the scene in a white Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

Detectives from the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene. During the ensuing investigation, Jason T. McBee was developed as the suspect in question. At approximately 6:30 AM, officers located the Monte Carlo parked in front of a residence located at 1535 Nall Street. Mr. McBee was found inside the residence and was promptly arrested for the offense of Aggravated Robbery. He was transported to the Kingsport City Jail where he currently resides awaiting arraignment.
