KINGSPORT – Two men were arrested for drag racing at more than 100 mph early Friday morning on East Stone Drive near Arbutus Avenue, according to a Kingsport Police Department incident report.

Wuilmer Benavente, age 19, was driving a 2013 Dodge Challenger clocked at 107 mph with Vincent Perez, age 30, clocked at 104 mph in a Ford Mustang in close proximity to the Dodge. The incident occurred near midnight Friday, the report stated.

Both vehicles were tagged with Florida license plates, and neither Benavente nor Perez carried a United States driver’s license. Both men said they were from Venezuela and are acquainted with each other, according to the report.

Only one of the vehicles immediately complied with the officer’s lights and siren, although the second vehicle was stopped a short distance later by other Kingsport police units, the report stated. Both men were charged with drag racing, a Class B misdemeanor offense.
