Pet Rescue Kits Donated to The Kingsport Fire Department
KINGSPORT – Today, the Kingsport Fire Department began placing new donated pet rescue kits on engines at each station to make sure your pets are taken care of in fire emergencies. The donation was made possible by Dreana Mowen of Kingsport through. ‚ After seeing another department in the region received the kits Mrs. Mowen contacted the Kingsport Fire Department to see if there were any on board the KFD engines.
During a fire, human life and safety come first, but if firefighters can rescue an animal they will. Oxygen masks made for humans do not work well on animals and the kits consists of three different sized masked designed especially for pets. The mask, which has a rubber ring on the inside, fit snugly over the animals snout. A small plastic tube on the mask connects to an oxygen tank. This can provide better treatment to an animal who has been rescued. Kingsport Firefighters will also be reviewing pet CPR procedures.
More than 40,000 pets died in home fires last year in the US.
