UPDATE: Driver of Ford Focus Died over the Weekend
The driver of the 2007 Ford Focus, Elise A. Kiser (53 years of age), died at Holston Valley Medical Center on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at approximately 4:45 PM when she succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. She had been hospitalized in critical condition since the day of the collision. This crash, which occurred on December 2, 2013 at approximately 5:30 PM, on Fort Henry Drive at Atoka Lane, is still being actively investigated by the K.P.D. Traffic Unit. As previously released: UPDATE: Further Investigation Reveals New Facts Further investigation into the recent serious traffic collision on Fort Henry Drive at Atoka Lane has revealed new facts. The 2007 Ford Focus driven by Elise Kiser was not turning left from southbound Fort Henry Drive toward Atoka Lane as was previously released. New evidence has revealed that the Ford Focus was actually leaving the Wal-Mart parking lot, located at 3200 Fort Henry Drive, when it pulled into the intersection of Fort Henry Drive and Atoka Lane where the collision occurred. Michael Bryant, who was driving the 2003 Ford F-150 northbound on Fort Henry Drive contends that his light was green at the time of his collision with the Ford Focus. However, this crash is still under investigation by the K.P.D. Traffic Unit. Ms. Kiser is still at Holston Valley Medical Center in critical condition. Anyone who may have witnessed this crash or might have any information relating to this crash is asked to contact the K.P.D. Traffic Unit at 423-224-2750 or Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111. As previously released: The K.P.D. Traffic Unit is investigating a serious crash on Fort Henry Drive. On December 2, 2013 at approximately 5:30 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to a motor vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of Fort Henry Drive and Atoka Lane in Kingsport. Due to extensive injuries to one of the drivers, the K.P.D. Traffic Unit was contacted and responded to the scene. Their investigation revealed that a 2007 Ford Focus driven by Elise Kiser had been in the center turn lane of southbound Fort Henry Drive preparing to make a left turn onto Atoka Lane. A Ford F-150 driven by Michael Bryant had been travelling northbound on Fort Henry Drive in the left lane. For unknown reasons, the Ford Focus pulled into the path of the Ford F-150 resulting in a collision. Ms. Kiser suffered critical injuries and was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center where she is listed in serious condition. She was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the collision. Mr. Bryant was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in the crash. He stated that he had a green light at the time of the collision. The investigation is ongoing by Ptl. Dustin Jackson of the K.P.D. Traffic Unit. The Kingsport Police Department strongly encourages all occupants of motor vehicles to wear their seatbelts. Not only is it the law, but it could quite possibly be the difference in life or death in the event of a serious car crash. Even in seemingly minor collisions, wearing a seatbelt can mean the difference in walking away unscathed versus a senseless trip to the emergency room for easily preventable injuries.
