NEWS RELEASE | |||
SUBJECT: | Suspect Sought in Case of Stolen and Forged Checks | ||
DATE: | April 1, 2016 | ||
CASE #: | 16-006540 | ||
GENERAL NARRATIVE | |||
On March 12, 2016 an unknown white male suspect forged and passed a stolen check, written for the amount of $28.14, at Food City, located at 1911 Moreland Drive in Kingsport. The following day, on March 13, 2016 the same suspect forged and passed a second stolen check, written for the amount of $57.71, at another local Food City, located at 1205 North Eastman Road.
Both checks were from the same account. The victim told Kingsport Police that these checks were from an old AmSouth bank account that he had closed years ago, and he had disposed of the remaining checks in the trash. AmSouth bank no longer exists, having since been acquired by Regions bank. The suspect apparently stole the discarded checks from the victim’s trash. A photo of the suspect, taken from surveillance video footage, has been included in this release. Anyone who recognizes him is asked to contact Detectives in the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or call Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111. Alternatively, if an individual who is able to supply information related to this or any other case wishes not to be identified, tips can be submitted anonymously via online “Citizen Feedback” forms available at the following link: http://police.KingsportTN.gov/Citizen_Feedback The Kingsport Police Department recommends destroying discarded checks and other financial documents by shredding or incinerating them to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands. |
