GENERAL NARRATIVE |
On January 13, 2015 at approximately 4:15 AM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to an alarm at Garda Armored Services, located at 645 East Main Street in Kingsport. Officers found a broken window in a door and an additional broken window on the exterior of the business. Further inspection of the inside of the business revealed that in an apparent effort to bypass the alarm, an unknown suspect had attempted to break through an interior wall into a safe room. When that attempt failed, the suspect accessed the safe room through a door which activated the alarm. The suspect stole a large amount of cash and fled the scene prior to police arrival.
During the course of the subsequent investigation by the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division, Kevin E. Cooper was developed as the suspect in question and a warrant was obtained for his arrest, charging him with Burglary and Theft over $10,000. On February 11, 2015, Mr. Cooper was arrested by officers of the Kingsport and Bristol Police Departments at his residence in Bristol, TN. He was transported to the Kingsport City Jail for processing, but has since been transferred to the Sullivan County Jail in Blountville where he remains incarcerated in lieu of a $20,000 bond. This incident is still under investigation by the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division, as the stolen cash has yet to be recovered. |
