On March 8, 2014 at approximately 12:10 PM, Samuel A. Ireson, Jr. was killed when the motorcycle he was operating collided with a vehicle driven by Kimberly S. Wieger at the intersection of Fort Henry Drive and Atoka Lane in Kingsport. The original news release on this crash can be accessed via the link below:
Based on evidence collected at the scene of the collision and scientific crash reconstruction analysis, Investigators from the K.P.D. Traffic Unit have been able to determine the approximate speed of Mr. Ireson’s motorcycle. Just prior to the crash, as the motorcycle was approaching the intersection, it was traveling approximately 109 miles per hour. The speed of the motorcycle at the actual point of impact was approximately 89 miles per hour. The posted speed limit on this section of Fort Henry Drive is only 45 miles per hour. Furthermore, at the time of the crash, Mr. Ireson’s driver license was Revoked for a prior conviction of Driving Under the Influence. This is still an active investigation, the findings of which upon completion will be presented to the Sullivan County Grand Jury to determine the final resolution of this unfortunate incident.
