SUBJECT: KPD Arrests Nurse For Public Intoxication

GENERAL NARRATIVE
On February 2nd, 2024, Andrew Johnson Elementary School staff alerted the School Resource Officer (SRO) that a contracted substitute nurse appeared to be acting lethargic. The SRO identified the contracted substitute nurse as Jaclyn Goff, of Abingdon, VA. During his investigation, the SRO observed signs of impairment and determined that Goff was under the influence of an intoxicant and placed her in custody for public intoxication.
The SRO also found a nearly empty bottle of Peppermint Schnapps in her purse, along with an unopened White Claw Watermelon Hard Seltzer and prescription medication.
She was additionally charged with possession of alcoholic beverage on school grounds. Goff was taken to the Kingsport City Jail and issued a $1,000.00 bond.
Students who had reported to the clinic that day were evaluated by a Kingsport City School nurse, as well as the Kingsport City School nurse supervisor.
There were no injuries to students reported.
