GENERAL NARRATIVE |
A reward is being offered in a recent construction trailer arson incident. J.A. Street and Associates has offered a $500 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this incident.
On May 6, 2014 at approximately 3:00 AM, representatives of the Kingsport Police and Fire Departments responded to a structure fire at the construction site of the future Tri-Cities Crossing (formerly named Heritage Point) commercial shopping development located in the vicinity of the Interstate 26/Interstate 81 interchange. Responding units found a construction trailer fully engulfed in flames. A second fire, believed to be directly related to the first, was located in a brush pile approximately 100 yards away. Kingsport Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish both fires; however, the construction trailer, owned by J.A. Street and Associates, received extensive damage in excess of $10,000. K.P.D. and K.F.D. Arson Investigators were able to determine that the fires were deliberately set. Kingsport Police Detectives are seeking any new details that may lead them to a suspect in this case. Anyone with information is asked to contact the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111. |

GENERAL NARRATIVE |
On May 21, 2014 at approximately 10:00 AM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to the intersection of South John B. Dennis Highway and Tidewater Court in reference to a motor vehicle collision with injury. Their investigation into the crash revealed the following:
A 1996 Saturn L-Series Sedan, driven by Karen Payne, was on Tidewater Court and was proceeding through a green light at the intersection of South John B. Dennis Highway. A 1999 Chevy Silverado pickup, driven by Larry W. Hutchins, was southbound on South John B. Dennis Highway and ran the red light at the intersection with Tidewater Court, striking the Saturn in the right side of the vehicle. The impact spun the Saturn into a 2000 Ford Mustang, driven by Mary Ramey, that was stopped at the intersection waiting to turn. Both Ms. Payne and Ms. Ramey were transported to Holston Valley Medical Center by Sullivan County E.M.S. for treatment of what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. Mr. Hutchins was not injured in the crash. Immediately after the crash, Mr. Hutchins was observed walking to a wooded area in the vicinity of the crash and attempting to hide something. Further inspection revealed that the object in question was a Mason jar containing over an ounce of “medical” grade marijuana. This high grade marijuana typically sells for as much as $300 per ounce. Mr. Hutchins was arrested and charged with: 1) Driving Under the Influence 2) Vehicular Assault 3) Possession of over ½ Ounce of a Schedule VI Drug (Marijuana) for Resale 4) Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device (Running a Red Light) 5) Violation of Financial Responsibility Law (No Insurance) He was transported to the Kingsport City Jail where he was confined pending arraignment. |
