NEWS RELEASE
SUBJECT: Suspect Sought in Felonious Merchandise Return Scam
DATE: July 29, 2015
CASE #: 15-015212
GENERAL NARRATIVE
On July 9, 2015 at approximately 11:15 PM, a white male suspect returned two Vizio High Definition televisions at Wal-Mart, located at 2500 West Stone Drive in Kingsport. The suspect was refunded nearly $1,200 in cash for the televisions. After the suspect left the store, loss prevention personnel realized that the returned televisions were smaller and less expensive than the boxes in which they were packaged indicated.

Further investigation revealed that on more than one occasion, the same suspect had purchased a large television and a smaller less expensive television. He then swapped the serial numbers and packaging materials and returned the less expensive televisions for the refund amount of the larger and more expensive televisions. All total, he has scammed Wal-Mart out of nearly $2,400.

Photos of the suspect captured on surveillance video have been included in this release. He appears to have extensive tattoos visible on both arms, and at the time of the incident he had a full beard. Anyone who recognizes him is asked to contact Detectives in the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or call Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111.
