NEWS RELEASE
SUBJECT: Detectives Attempting to Identify Debit Card Thief Whom Victim Met Online
DATE: August 9, 2016
CASE #: 16-011142 (Theft of Debit Card)

16-011547 (Fraudulent Use of Debit Card)

GENERAL NARRATIVE
On May 27, 2016 at approximately 12:00 PM, an unidentified white male suspect used a stolen debit card to make a fraudulent purchase for $31.06 at Murphy Express, located at 3100 Fort Henry Drive in Kingsport. The debit card was originally stolen from the victim’s residence sometime during the previous two days while she was away from home.

The victim originally met the suspect online, which soon evolved into a romantic relationship, and eventually led to him moving in with her. When she returned home on May 27, she found a note stating, “Thanks for the money.” She then proceeded to find her debit card missing as well as over $500 missing from her bank account.

The name that the suspect had used during his relationship with the victim is now believed to have been an alias.

Photos of the suspect taken from the online dating website as well as from Murphy Express surveillance footage have been included in this release. Anyone who recognizes him is asked to contact Detectives in the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or call Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111.
