The Kingsport Police Department has made an arrest in the theft of a cell phone after surveillance video of the incident was released to the public.
On October 29, 2013, K.P.D. Detectives, in cooperation with the K.P.D. Community Relations and Crime Prevention Unit, released video surveillance footage that captured a female suspect in the act of stealing a cell phone. Detectives asked the public to help them identify the suspect shown in the video. Within a few hours, several tips were received which enabled Detective Cpl. Martin Taylor to quickly track down the suspect, identified as Elizabeth G. Bowman, at her residence. Detective Cpl. Taylor arrested Ms. Bowman without incident and charged her with Felony Theft Of Property Over $500. Unfortunately, the stolen cell phone was not recovered, as Ms. Bowman had already destroyed it. The Kingsport Police Department greatly appreciates tips from the public that aid in the prevention of crime, the apprehension of criminals, and the recovery of stolen property. As previously released: The Kingsport Police Department is asking for assistance in identifying a suspect in the theft of a cell phone. On October 22, 2013 at approximately 6:15 PM, an individual was checking out at Wal-Mart, located at 3200 Fort Henry Drive in Kingsport. She set her cell phone down on a self checkout register and walked away without the phone by mistake. Realizing her error, she returned a few minutes later, but the phone was already gone. The cell phone is a black LG 4G LTE Smart Phone with a white cover, and has an approximate replacement value of $500. Wal-Mart loss prevention officers checked video surveillance footage and were able to see a suspect pick up the phone and exit the store with it. The suspect is a white female with collar length blonde hair. She appears to be tall and slim, and she was wearing blue jeans, a light gray shirt, and a black jacket at the time of the offense. She was accompanied by another blonde haired female at the time she committed the theft. The other female is not a suspect in the theft but could help police in identifying the suspect. The suspect left in a large white 4-door sedan, possibly a mid-1990s Cadillac DeVille. For additional information, please contact: P.I.O. Thomas M. Patton K.P.D.
