| A man has been arrested for auto burglary 18 hours after being released from jail on a previous arrest.
On August 19, 2013 at approximately 6:00 AM an observant citizen walking her dog observed an individual, later identified as Jeffrey A. Creech, suspiciously rummaging around inside a 1994 Ford F-250 pickup parked at 113 East Sevier Avenue in Kingsport. The citizen called Kingsport Central Dispatch and K.P.D. Patrol Officer Aaron Grimes responded to the scene. When Officer Grimes arrived, he observed Mr. Creech still inside the truck. Mr. Creech saw Officer Grimes and attempted to flee on foot; however, he was quickly apprehended. A subsequent investigation conducted by Officers Jesse Griggs and Andy Goddard revealed that Mr. Creech had also entered a 1991 Chevy conversion van parked nearby and a 1999 Chevy Blazer parked at Holston Valley Medical Center, located at 130 West Ravine Road. Mr. Creech was in possession of several items believed to have been stolen from these vehicles. Furthermore, Mr. Creech was in possession of two prescription medicine bottles containing generic alternatives to Darvocet and Percocet; however, the medication had been prescribed to another individual. Mr. Creech was arrested for 3 counts of Auto Burglary and Simple Possession of a Controlled Substance and transported to the Kingsport City Jail. Mr. Creech had been arrested for Motor Vehicle Theft the previous day, and had just been released on a $4,000 bond 18 hours prior to this arrest. He is currently being held on a $15,000 bond for this most recent arrest. All three vehicles were unlocked at the time of these offenses. The Kingsport Police Department repeatedly stresses the importance of keeping vehicles locked as a deterrent to these types of crimes. The Kingsport Police Department also wishes to commend the citizen who observed the crime in progress and notified authorities. This is textbook Neighborhood Watch in action.
