KPD e-Press Release: K.P.D. Awarded 300 “Emergency Links Matter” Car Visor Kits
General Narrative |
The Kingsport Police Department has recently been awarded 300 Emergency Links Matter (E.L.M.) Car Visor Kits.
On Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 9:00 AM the Kingsport Police Department was presented with 300 Emergency Links Matter (E.L.M.) Car Visor Kits. The presentation was made by Deb Maupin who is the founder of Emergency Links Matter. A photo of Ms. Maupin presenting the kits to Sgt. Joe Earles of the K.P.D. Traffic Unit is included in this release. K.P.D. was awarded these kits in connection with their participation in the annual Tennessee Lifesavers Conference, held by the Governor’s Highway Safety Office, where E.L.M. was a sponsor. The E.L.M. kit was developed after Ms. Maupin’s own 18 year old daughter was critically injured in a car crash. She was unconscious and unable to provide emergency contact information to first responders. Maupin designed the E.L.M. kit to be placed on a vehicle’s sun visor, where it would be instantly noticeable to first responders. The kit provides first responders with the name of the individual, plus known medical conditions, allergies, and people to contact in an emergency. Additional kits are available from E.L.M. that are designed specifically to affix to child passenger safety seats of infants and small children. There is also an ID Wristband version intended to be worn by active outdoor athletes (runners, hikers, bicyclists, etc.) K.P.D. plans to distribute these kits to the public at future educational events or by request from individual citizens.
