KPD e-Press Release: Fatal Vehicle Crash

One individual has been killed, and three critically injured, in a head-on collision.
On September 14, 2013 at approximately 8:15 PM, the Kingsport Police Department was notified of a two vehicle crash on Ft. Henry Drive near South Street. The investigation revealed that a Ford Sport Utility Vehicle with three occupants was southbound on Fort Henry Drive in the inside lane and was passing South Street. A passenger car was northbound on Fort Henry Drive and was approaching South Street at a very high rate of speed. The passenger car crossed the center turn lane, entered the southbound inside lane and struck the Ford SUV head on. After the impact, both vehicles erupted into flames. Several citizens stopped to assist, and two citizens pulled the occupants of the Ford SUV to safety while the vehicle was still on fire. The two citizens also attempted to removed the driver of the passenger car from the vehicle but could not due to the flames. The driver of the passenger car received fatal injuries. All three occupants of the Ford SUV were transported to Holston Valley Medical Center with critical injuries. At this time the names of the involved will not be released pending identification and notification of family members. The investigation is ongoing by the Kingsport Police Department Traffic Unit.
