KPD e-News Release: Suspect in Custody in Dorothy Street Robbery and Shooting Incident
GENERAL NARRATIVE |
A suspect is in custody in a robbery and shooting incident that occurred on November 7, 2014 at 1158 Dorothy Street in Kingsport. During the investigation into the incident by the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division, Shane Dylan Archer was developed as the male suspect in question. On November 12, 2014 detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest charging him with Criminal Attempt to Commit 1st Degree Murder (2 counts) and Robbery.
On November 13, 2014 at approximately 10:00 PM, Mr. Archer was arrested by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office on an unrelated drug charge. While in S.C.S.O. custody, he was also served with the K.P.D. arrest warrant, as well as three additional outstanding Sullivan County warrants for 1) Failure to Appear, 2) Violation of Probation, and 3) Violation of Conditions of Community Supervision. The previously mentioned female suspect has also been identified. The investigation is still ongoing in an attempt to determine the extent of her involvement in the incident; therefore, her name will not be released at this time. As previously released: On November 7, 2014 at approximately 3:00 PM, Officers from the Kingsport Police Department’s Patrol and Criminal Investigations Divisions responded to 1158 Dorothy Street in Kingsport in reference to a shooting incident that had just occurred. Upon arrival, they spoke with two female occupants who were inside the residence at the time of the shooting. The victims reported that they were in the living room of this residence when two suspects, one a white male described as approximately 5 feet, 7 inches in height and skinny, and the other a black female described as light-skinned, entered through the unlocked front door. The victims stated that the pair of suspects demanded pills, looked through their purses, and stole some money. The victims claimed that the suspects did not display a weapon at this point, but threatened to shoot them. A passing witness apparently heard the commotion inside, forced open the front door, and chased the suspects out of the rear of the residence. The suspects fled the scene in what is believed to be a champagne colored 2-door Chevrolet Blazer sport utility vehicle. The victims did not immediately contact the police. Approximately 15 minutes later, the suspects reportedly returned in the same vehicle and fired multiple shots from an unknown firearm at the residence while the victims were inside. The suspects then fled the scene a second time. At least two bullet holes were found in the structure, and additional gunfire related damage was found to a vehicle parked in the driveway. Nobody claimed to have been injured in the shooting; however, what appeared to be fresh blood spatter was found inside the residence. Detectives are still attempting to determine the source of that blood. An image of the suspect vehicle, captured on a surveillance camera monitoring that neighborhood, is included in this release. Again, it is believed to be a champagne colored 2-door Chevrolet Blazer, and it appears to possibly have some front-end damage. Anyone who may be able to help detectives identify these suspects and solve this case is asked to contact the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or call Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111.
