| GENERAL NARRATIVE |
| On September 19, 2015 at approximately 10:15 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to the 1000 block of Reedy Place in Kingsport to investigate a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, the officers located an adult male shooting victim, later identified as Samuel J. Sturgill, lying in the roadway. Sullivan County EMS transported Mr. Sturgill to Holston Valley Medical Center for emergency treatment; however, he did not survive. He succumbed to his injuries after arrival at the hospital.
The K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division investigated the incident throughout the night and into the following day. Abram Jeremiah Amos was quickly developed as a person of interest and was soon tracked down at a residence in the 400 block of Chadwell Road in Sullivan County. A vehicle that matched the description of one that had been observed fleeing the scene of the shooting was found parked behind the same residence. Mr. Amos was promptly transported to the Kingsport Justice Center. After further investigation, Mr. Amos was positively identified as the suspect in the shooting. He was charged with Second Degree Murder and confined in the Kingsport City Jail pending arraignment. The firearm believed to have been used in the shooting has been recovered. To protect the integrity of the investigation and future prosecution, further details of the incident will not be revealed at this time. While the specific motive will not be released, K.P.D. wishes to stress that this shooting was not a random act of violence, and Mr. Sturgill and Mr. Amos were acquainted with one another prior to the shooting. The Kingsport Police Department would also like to thank the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance throughout the investigation. |
