KPD e-News Release: Kingsport Police Arrest Man for Firing Handgun in Shopping Center Parking Lot
GENERAL NARRATIVE |
On December 12, 2014 just after midnight, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the parking lot of Hobby Lobby in the East Stone Commons Shopping Center, located at 1905 North Eastman Road in Kingsport. Kingsport Central Dispatch received information that the male suspect, later identified as Cole Morris, was near a beige pickup and a green Mini Cooper.
Upon arrival, officers located Mr. Morris and the described vehicles. Their investigation revealed that a woman, believed to be the girlfriend of Mr. Morris, had been in the parking lot speaking with another man. Mr. Morris arrived in his pickup, and an argument ensued. Mr. Morris returned to his truck, retrieved a handgun, and fired a shot into the pavement. Mr. Morris told the female that they needed to talk, prompting her to advise the other man to leave. The other man left, and Mr. Morris returned the handgun to his truck. Mr. Morris initially told officers that he was unarmed; however, he eventually told the officers where they could find the handgun. Officers were able to speak with the other man via telephone, as well as two additional witnesses, who confirmed the above account. Mr. Morris was arrested for two counts of Felony Reckless Endangerment and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon with Intent to go Armed and transported to the Kingsport City Jail. |
