Kingsport reaches a new phase in the Public Alert & Information System
KINGSPORT – The City of Kingsport has reached a new phase of the new Public Alert and Information System. Kingsport is currently relying on the new Cassidian alert system at kingsportsullivantn.onthealert.com to notify citizens of emergencies and new public notices that would affect areas of the city such as service outages/changes and road closings. The sirens that have been throughout the city to give an outdoor audible warning for emergencies have gone off line. In the coming year they will be replace by four new outdoor sirens for outdoor public emergency alerts.
The new system will allow us to alert more people in a quicker amount of time. stated Chief Craig Dye, The four new sirens will alert citizens who are outside and may be away from their phone. The sirens are to help direct citizens to their cell phones, TV or radio to receive the emergency alert.
Citizens in Kingsport and the surrounding area are encouraged to go to kingsportsullivantn.onthealert.com or to kingsporttn.gov to sign up for alerts on their cell phones and/or home phones.
Because of the unforeseen nature of some emergencies, no one can fully guarantee that you will receive a notification every time. Please keep yourself informed by continuing to monitor other public safety warnings and information systems (such as television and radio) whenever possible.
