Kingsport City Schools Names Teachers of the Year
KINGSPORT – Kingsport City Schools is pleased to announce that Peggy Rochelle, Lisa Bratton and Jennifer Bishop have been selected as the systems 2010 Teachers of the Year.
The selections are based on recommendations from peers and on grade level taught. Dr. Rochelle was selected as the Pre-4 Teacher of the Year. Ms. Bratton was selected as the Grade 5-8 Teacher of the Year and Ms. Bishop was chosen as the 9-12 Teacher of the Year.

Dr. Peggy Rochelle |
Dr. Peggy Rochelle serves as a Special Services Teacher at John Adams Elementary School. She is a 27-year teaching veteran, and has served as a special services teacher and history teacher at John Sevier Middle School. Dr. Rochelle is a National Board Certified Teacher, having obtained this prestigious recognition in 2000. Her education includes a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Tennessee, a Master of Arts in Special Education from East Tennessee State University and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis from ETSU. Dr. Rochelle says that her passion is helping children learn and become their own advocates for their education -¦ empowering students and having high expectations of students leads to student success both in our classrooms and as citizen of our world.

Lisa Bratton |
Lisa Bratton serves as an 8th grade mathematics teacher at Robinson Middle School. She is a 21-year teaching veteran, having served as a mathematics teacher and assistant to the principal at Robinson Middle School. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics Education from Emory & Henry College and has completed post-graduate work in mathematics at East Tennessee State University. Ms. Bratton says her philosophy of teaching is that, a teacher must foster their students intellectual, emotional and social growth. An outstanding teacher is willing to care about the children they teach and to take seriously the role that they play in a childs development.

Jennifer Bishop |
Jennifer Bishop serves as a mathematics teacher for grades 9-12 at Dobyns-Bennett High School. She is a 17-year teaching veteran, having served as a teacher in Knoxville prior to joining Kingsport City Schools in 1994. Ms. Bishop holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Education from Emory & Henry College and a Masters of Education from Tusculum College. Describing her teaching philosophy, Ms. Bishop states, I believe learning happens best when students do not fear the subject or the teacher -¦ no amount of money or awards can ever match seeing a life changed because you, as a teacher, took the risk of being someones inspiration.
