Dobyns-Bennett High School Bowling Coach Honored by TSSAA
KINGSPORT – Dobyns-Bennett Bowling Coach Debbie Knott has been selected as the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Associations (TSSAA) 2012-2013 State of Tennessee Bowling Coach of the Year.
Dobyns-Bennett is very fortunate to have Coach Knott leading our Bowling Program, said Dobyns-Bennett High School Athletic Director, Mr. Cary Daniels. This is a tremendous honor and we are very proud of her!
Knott has been the head bowling coach for both the boys and girls team for 13 seasons. However, the award is in recognition for her involvement with the girls team. In 12 years, the D-B Girls Bowling team has a total of 137 wins, 54 losses, has been district champions 9 years out of 12, regional champions 7 years out of 12 and they have appeared in state matches 9 years out of 12. The highest achievement was placing fourth with the girls team at the state tournament.
Knott is an active member of United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Tennessee State Youth Association where she serves as president. She is also a USBC certified Bronze-Level bowling coach; the USBC coaching program is the only program recognized by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and USBC coaches are acknowledged experts trained to instruct all levels of bowlers. Recently, she completed and passed the ParaPro Assessment to become a practicing paraprofessional to become a teachers aide.
Knotts name has also been submitted to the National Federation of High School Associations.
She and her husband Kenny reside in Kingsport. They have two daughters and five grandchildren; daughter, Contina Salyer resides in NC while youngest daughter, April Taylor is the D-B Bowling Teams assistant coach, also residing in Kingsport.
