Carousel Seeks Volunteer Painters for Animals
Suzanne Justis is the lead artist for painting carousel animals.‚ Suzanne has painted the first horse from our Kingsport Carving Studio. During that experience, she honed the techniques for painting animals and developed a style that will give us a “consistent theme” to all our animals.
Suzanne will teach classes where our volunteer artists will learn these techniques and styles. The two-hour class will cost $50 (tuition) per student to offset the costs of paints and other materials used to paint the animals. Volunteers will need to furnish their own brushes. Suzanne will limit the class size to about 8 volunteers per class to give more personalized instruction. She will schedule additional classes as animals become available to accommodate as many volunteers as possible.
Volunteer painters will be eligible for a refund of their $50 tuition when the animal they paint is sponsored, if they have spent at least 4 hours painting the animal. It is likely that more than one painter will work on the same animal. Volunteer painters will be recognized with their name, along with the carver and sponsor, on a brass plaque under the animal they paint.
