KINGSPORT ‚¬ With improving road conditions, the Aquatic Center, Kingsport Public Library, Senior Center, Cultural Arts offices, Parks and Recreation facilities and Bays Mountain Park are reopening today at 11 a.m. and will remain open through 5:30 p.m. However, the Kingsport Area Transit System remains closed.

Kingsport Streets & Sanitation crews are continuing to work 12-hour shifts to clear side roads and less traveled routes. Most main routes and roads leading into subdivisions are now relatively clear, but side routes will require additional removal efforts.

Streets & Sanitation Manager Ronnie Hammonds noted that this particular weather event featured snow, ice, and then more snow, packing frozen precipitation tightly and hindering removal.

Most of our main routes are in pretty good condition, with the salt melting todays snowfall, Hammonds said. Secondary roads are still snow covered in a number of areas.

In addition, garbage, trash and recycling collection is still running on a one-day delay, however routes will only be collected where road conditions permit safe operation of collection trucks.

Were making every possible effort to collect every route, but were not going to be able to collect every customer this week, Hammonds said. Well be making arrangements to pick up surplus materials outside of the container next week for those customers who we are unable to serve this week.
