Inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in October 2015, Whiskey-voiced Becky Hobbs is a true one-of-a-kind. On stage, she plays some rockin keys, yet she can rope you in like an Oklahoma cowgirl with her from-the-heart ballads.‚ A singer-songwriter and pianist, Hobbs has recorded seven studio albums and has charted multiple singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, including the No. 10 hit “Let’s Get Over Them Together”, a duet with Moe Bandy.
Becky has performed in over 40 countries, including nine in Africa. Her songs have been recorded by Alabama, Conway Twitty (“I Want To Know You Before We Make Love” went to #1), George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Emmylou Harris, Glen Campbell, Wanda Jackson, John Anderson, Janie Fricke, Lacy J Dalton, Moe Bandy, Shelly West, Helen Reddy, Shirley Bassey, Jane Oliver, Ken Mellons, and others.
She is the co-writer of Alabamas hit, Angels Among Us, which has been used by many charities throughout the world, including St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
Hobbs, a direct descendant of Nancy Ward (also known as Nanyehi), is also the co-writer of Nanyehi: Beloved Woman of the Cherokee, an original Broadway-style musical about the 18th Century Cherokee woman Nancy Ward, who lived in Kingsport.‚ The musical was produced in Kingsport in 2014 and is scheduled to come back to Kingsport in the fall of 2017 as part of the Kingsport Centennial Celebration.
What do you get when you put a real-deal cowgirl, a corporate lawyer, and an extremely talented singer-songwriter together in one body? You get one extremely interesting, unique, free-spirited, engaging and intelligent set of story-songs.
Lucy Billings music deals with her childhood growing up in Tucson, Arizona, and also the effect of the economic downturn.‚ She provides some insights as to what that girl with the guitar in the coffee shop/bookstore/bar is thinking about up there.
Lucys music is clear, powerful and real. – Casey Hoffman, President and DJ, AMI Radio
‚¬¦uncommon candor‚¬¦ it is the personal honesty of [Lucys] songs that makes them so easily relatable. – Jackie Morris, Folkworks.org
“Lucy Billings has the presence of a folk musician, a natural ability to reveal the flesh and flaws of others without judgment, offering solace in a phrase and inspiration in ideas…. Carry the Water, Billings latest album, talks of the things in life that we may take for granted, exposes what we think is important and suggests that we may want to look a little closer to see what we are missing.” – Danny McCloskey, The Alternate Root
