Brickyard Park Ribbon Cutting set for Thursday July 2
KINGSPORT ‚¬ The City of Kingsport will officially open Brickyard Park (2017 Brickyard Drive) on Thursday July 2, 2015 at 10:30 am.‚ The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony.‚ Chamber CEO Miles Burdine, City Manager Jeff Fleming, Mayor Dennis Phillips, Mayor Elect John Clark and David Golden, Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer for Eastman, will speak during the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The ceremony will mark the completion of a nearly $7.0 million project.‚ Brickyard Park will have four fields in a wagon-wheel design.‚ Additionally, the complex will have a centrally located two-story building for scoring, concessions and restrooms, along with 320 parking spaces.‚ All four fields have been designed to accommodate both baseball and softball.‚ The park has room to construct a fifth field in the future.
The fields are located on 38 acres of the former General Shale site which was purchased by the Kingsport Economic Development Board in 2013.‚ The proximity to downtown Kingsport and to Domtar Park, existing eight field complex, will provide convenience to the citizens of Kingsport as well as an economic impact for downtown.
Kingsport Parks and Recreation Manager Kitty Frazier estimates that annually over 1700 games will be played on the new fields.‚ Many of these games will be recreation league games however the new park will be the host to many tournaments which have a direct and indirect economic impact on the City of Kingsport.‚ Last year alone Kingsport, in partnership with the Kingsport Convention and Visitors Bureau, saw a $4.0 million economic impact from baseball and softball tournaments alone.
