BMA meeting moved to 2 pm; service disruptions due to road conditions

KINGSPORT – The‚ Board of Mayor and Aldermen will meet at noon today in the Council Room to discuss a proposed charter change in Work Session, with the regular BMA meeting moved up to 2 p.m. in the City Hall Council Room.

Meanwhile, garbage, trash and recycling routes will be moved back a day to allow additional manpower for snow removal. Routes usually collected on Tuesday will be collected Wednesday. Wednesday routes will be collected Thursday, with Thursday routes collected Friday, and Friday routes collected on Saturday.

Public Works crews are working 12 hour shifts to clear routes, with main routes passable after spreading more than 1,000 tons of salt. Nonetheless, it will be a lengthy process to‚ clear remaining snow and ice‚ from neighborhood streets.

Non-essential City services are also suspended for the day. The Kingsport Area Transit Service will not‚ open, with the Kingsport Employee Wellness Center, all Parks and Recreation facilities, Bays Mountain Park, the Public Library, Senior Center, Cultural Arts office, and the Aquatic Center remaining closed.

Reopening of non-essential services on Wednesday will remain contingent on road and weather conditions, with the safety of customers and employees remaining the top priority.
