Sullivan County Imagination Library Celebrates 200,000th Book
The Sullivan County Imagination Library (SCIL)
will host an event to celebrate the delivery of the 200,000th book
since the program began in September 2004. Tennessee
Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey will read
to children at the First Presbyterian Church in conjunction with the
celebration. The Vice President of Governors Books from Birth Foundation, Clayborne Gayden will also make an
appearance.‚ The celebration will be held on Friday,
May
29, 2009 at 10 a.m at the First
Presbyterian Church, which is located at 100 W.
Church St.,‚ Church Circle in Kingsport.‚ Through this
program, more than 10,488 children in Sullivan County
have received a free book a month from birth to five years of age.‚ The SCIL
is based on a model of Dolly Partons Imagination Library.‚ Currently,
there are approximately 5,049 (57%) children enrolled in the program.‚ More
than 3,979 children have graduated from the program.‚ So, come out Friday and celebrate these accomplishments with the Imagination Library.
