The Kingsport Police Department’s Crime Analyst prepares a weekly briefing that is presented at the department’s CompStat (Computer Statistics) meetings. He utilizes G.I.S. mapping and data driven analysis of crime and traffic safety issues to help identify “hot spots” throughout the community. The Crime Analyst works with the Operations Bureau to more efficiently and effectively allocate resources and devise strategies and tactics to solve problems and reduce crime.
Sergeant Randy Murray received his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a Minor in Sociology from East Tennessee State University. He began his law enforcment career at the Kingsport Police Department in 2000 when he was sworn in as a Patrol Officer. In 2006 he was transferred to the Criminal Investgiations Division where he would serve for the next decade, first as a Detective and later as a Detective Corporal. While assigned to C.I.D. he supervised Registered Sex Offenders and investiated major domestic violence cases. He eventually evolved to specialize in investigating crimes against persons and was directly involved in solving multiple active and cold case homicides. He is also a gradute of the esteemed National Forensic Academy. He was promoted to Sergeant in April of 2016 and currently serves as the department’s Crime Analyst.
