KINGSPORT – Since taking office, Mayor Clark has lived up to his promise to host a strategic planning session for the City. On October 29th and 30th, the City of Kingsport will host the ONEKingsport Mayors Summit. The purpose of the Summit is to create a 3-5 year road map to further the Citys vision of becoming a premier city to live, work and raise a family and for businesses to grow and prosper. The results of achieving this vision are to make our City the best possible Kingsport, a place that is attracting and retaining residents, businesses, developers and visitors.

The Summit will be livestreamed on, and Mayor Clark is encouraging citizens to participate. He is also encouraging those who are in college, have recently moved away, or have close connections to Kingsport to join in the effort. Watching the Summit from the comfort of a home or office will allow a wide range of options for interaction. For example, there will be text polling opportunities for the public to provide input in real time. There will also be live tweeting for those who prefer that mode of communication. For those without access to an internet connection, a small venue at Meadowview will be available to the public.

The Summit will occur on Thursday from 12:15 pm-5:30 pm and Friday from 8:30 am ‚¬ 2:30 pm. On day one, there will be a series of speakers to provide information regarding our current status, successful trends in other cities, and opportunities in particular focus areas. On day two, focus groups will be formed to dig deeper into ideas and opportunities for their respective groups. For those participating in the livestreaming on, they will walk through the same process receiving information about Kingsport, allowing citizens to cross over all focus areas if they choose.

Focus groups have been determined based upon research and current needs. The focus areas include higher education innovation, health and wellness, job creation and entrepreneurship, housing, destination city investments, downtown revitalization and arts and entertainment.

Post summit workgroups will be formed with leadership from subject matter experts, a City staff professional and a BMA liaison. They will work for three months to provide solid recommendations to the City for future implementation.
