| UPDATE: Suspect in Custody.
On February 11, 2014 at approximately 9:00 AM, Rodney Ray “Baby Ray” Gilbert was arrested without incident at the Stratford Inn, located at 1708 East Stone Drive in Kingsport. He is currently being held in the Kingsport City Jail without bond. As previously released: Kingsport Police are searching for a suspect who is wanted for multiple felony incidents. Kingsport Police are searching for Rodney Ray “Baby Ray” Gilbert, who is currently wanted for: 1) Kidnapping 2) Aggravated Robbery 3) Auto Burglary (3 Counts) 4) Theft Over $1,000 (2 Counts) 5) Felony Vandalism (2 Counts) These charges stem from several investigations into multiple incidents reported to the Kingsport Police Department over the past month. The Kidnapping, Aggravated Robbery, and one of the Theft over $1,000 charges result from an incident that occurred on January 4, 2014 at 6:20 PM at 808 Teasel Drive, Apartment #5. Mr. Gilbert and an accomplice “hog tied” an adult male victim and robbed him at gun point of cash and other personal property. The Auto Burglary and Felony Vandalism charges result from an incident that occurred on January 12, 2014 at 10:00 AM at 2049 Stonebrook Place in Kingsport. Mr. Gilbert broke into three vehicles and stole personal property while the owners worshiped in a nearby church. The final Theft over $1,000 charge results from an incident that occurred on February 4, 2014 at 3:00 AM at Wal-Mart, located at 2500 West Stone Drive in Kingsport. Mr. Gilbert shoplifted miscellaneous camping equipment with of value of approximately $1,300. Based on one of his recent crimes, Mr. Gilbert should be considered armed and dangerous. A photo of Mr. Gilbert is attached to this release. He is a 37 year old white male, with a slim build, approximately 5’7” in height, with a weight of approximately 155 pounds. He has blue eyes and short blonde hair and has a thin mustache and goatee. His last known address is 1022 Reedy Place in Kingsport. Mr. Gilbert is believed to be driving either a charcoal gray Volkswagen Beetle or a Gray Honda Civic with custom wheels.
