General Narrative |
| What initially appeared to be a routine traffic stop for speeding conducted by the Kingsport Police Department has led to an individual being arrested on drug and weapons charges.
On October 14, 2013 at approximately 1:00 PM, K.P.D. C.I.D. Detective Corporal Martin Taylor observed a white Buick travelling in excess of the speed limit and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle pulled into the parking lot of the former location of the Ridgefields Market located at 449 Ridgefields Road in Kingsport. (No business is operating there at this time.) While the initial focus of the traffic stop was obviously on the driver of the vehicle, during the traffic stop, Det. Cpl. Taylor made contact with a front seat passenger identified as Willie Johnson. Mr. Johnson was found to be in possession of a purple bag containing multiple small baggies of crack cocaine and marijuana packaged for resale. He was also found to possess several small pink rocks believed to be the street drug “Gravel.” This substance will be sent to the T.B.I. Laboratory for analysis with potential additional criminal drug charges to follow pending those results. Mr. Johnson also had in his possession of a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun. By his own admission, Mr. Johnson is a convicted felon. K.P.D. Vice Detectives responded and took over the investigation. Mr. Johnson was arrested and charged with: 1) Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon 2) Possession of a Schedule II Drug for Resale (Crack Cocaine) 3) Possession of a Schedule VI Drug for Resale (Marijuana) For additional information, please contact: Ptl.
