Detectives are in search of a suspect involved in an early morning altercation in a Colonial Heights parking lot that ended in a shooting.
On January 2, 2014 at approximately 5:15 AM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers were dispatched in reference to shots being fired in the parking lot of Perkins Restaurant, located at 4618 Fort Henry Drive, in the Colonial Heights area of Kingsport. While en route, they spotted a vehicle matching the description of one observed leaving the scene of the incident. A traffic stop of this vehicle netted one of the individuals involved in the altercation. He had sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound during the incident. Sullivan County EMS responded and transported this individual to Holston Valley Hospital where he was treated and released. A witness account of the incident revealed that the victim of the gunshot wound had gone to Perkins to meet some unknown people. Upon arrival the victim of the gunshot wound had become involved in a physical altercation with one of these unknown individuals. At some point during the fight a shot was fired striking the victim. After the shot, all involved subjects retreated to their own vehicles and fled the scene. Presently, Kingsport Police Detectives are trying to locate a suspect described as a white male, 5’7” tall, and weighing 130 lbs. At the time of the incident he was reported to be wearing a black leather jacket and a black beanie style cap. He was said to have sped off in a light colored 4-door sedan southbound on Fort Henry Drive toward Johnson City.
