General Narrative |
A man has been struck by a vehicle in an apparent road rage incident.
On January 6, 2014 at approximately 4:30 PM two motorists became involved in an apparent road rage altercation. The incident began when one driver became enraged when he perceived the other driver to have “cut him off” in traffic. James Alley was driving a 2011 Honda Civic Del Sol and Benjamin Mitchell was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban. Both vehicles were traveling northbound on Fort Henry Drive toward Memorial Boulevard. The moving road rage altercation spanned a distance of several blocks on Fort Henry Drive; however, no contact was made between the two vehicles. Near the intersection of Fort Henry Drive at Memorial Boulevard, the Honda was following behind the Chevrolet. The Chevrolet stopped and Mr. Mitchell stepped out of his vehicle into the traffic lane. Simultaneously, the Honda swerved to the left toward a turn lane and struck Mr. Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was transported to Indian Path Hospital by Sullivan County E.M.S. for treatment of significant, but non-life threatening injuries. Mr. Alley and Mr. Mitchell were unknown to one another prior to this incident. Both drivers admitted to being involved in a mutual road rage incident; however, they gave conflicting statements as to how the incident unfolded. There were also multiple independent witnesses who are being interviewed. The collision was investigated by the K.P.D. Traffic Unit, and so far no charges have been filed; however, the case has been forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Division for follow-up. For additional information, please contact: P.I.O.
