KPD e-Press Release: K.P.D. Investigates Fatal Traffic Crash on Interstate 26

K.P.D. has responded to a fatal traffic crash on Interstate 26.
On December 23, 2013 at approximately 1:30 PM, Officers of the Kingsport Police Patrol and Traffic Units responded to Interstate 26 at mile marker 9 in reference to a fatal traffic crash. Their investigation revealed that a tractor trailer was westbound on Interstate 26 approaching mile marker 9. The driver stated that for unknown reasons his left front tire blew out causing him to lose control. The tractor trailer struck the guard rail, crossed the median, broke through the cable barrier and entered the eastbound lanes of I -26. A Kia 4-door sedan was eastbound on I-26 and was struck nearly head-on by the tractor trailer. The driver of the Kia was killed in the collision.
