KPD e-Press Release: K.P.D. Detectives Investigating the Death of an Individual Found near I-26 at John B. Dennis Highway
General Narrative |
The K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an individual found near the intersection of I-26 at John B. Dennis Highway.
On November 25, 2013 at approximately 9:30 AM, a passing motorist notified Kingsport Central Dispatch of the location of the deceased individual. Officers from the Kingsport Police Patrol and Criminal Investigations Divisions responded and located a deceased 28 year old white male in a field adjacent to the intersection. The Kingsport Police Department treats all unattended deaths (individuals who die outside of a medical facility or the direct supervision of a medical professional) as homicides, until proven otherwise. As such, a complete and thorough investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division is underway. However, based upon their preliminary findings, there is no indication of foul play. An autopsy has been ordered, and detectives will await those results before determining a cause of death to any degree of certainty. The decedent was last seen alive approximately 12 hours earlier on the previous evening. He has been positively identified, and his family has been notified; however, out of respect for everyone involved, the Kingsport Police Department will not be publicly releasing his name.
