General Narrative |
A juvenile has been arrested for arson in a recent residential fire on Steadman Street.
On September 1, 2013 at approximately 1:30 AM, the Kingsport Fire Department responded to a residential fire at 2101 Steadman Street in Kingsport. Open their arrival, heavy smoke and flames were emitting from the house. K.F.D. Firefighters extinguished the fire and arson investigators from the Kingsport Police and Fire Departments began their inspection into the cause. Their investigation revealed that the fire was deliberately set by an accelerant being poured on the floor of both a back bedroom and a back entryway and then ignited. The investigation also revealed that the suspect burglarized the residence prior to setting it ablaze. The renter of the home reported that several items including some frozen pizzas, a couple of boxes of frozen fish sticks, a Zippo lighter, and some old coins were missing from the home. While canvassing the neighborhood, K.P.D. Detectives learned that a 16 year old male juvenile took two boxes of frozen fish sticks and a Zippo lighter to the home of a nearby neighbor the night of the fire. The juvenile asked the neighbor to cook the fish sticks for him and offered to give him the lighter. The neighbor was still in possession of these items. The frozen fish sticks and the Zippo lighter were identified by the renter of the burned home as being stolen from his residence the night of the fire. The juvenile has been arrested and charged with arson and burglary. His identity will not be released. For additional information, please contact: Ptl. Thomas M. Patton K.P.D.
