KPD e-Press Release: Detectives Investigating Armed Robbery at Gold Rush

Kingsport Police Detectives are investigating an armed robbery at Gold Rush.
On January 24, 2014 at approximately 7:55 PM, Gold Rush, located at 733 West Stone Drive in Kingsport was robbed. The clerk was in the process of closing the store. He was using a broom handle to reach up and turn off the “Open” sign when the suspect entered the business. The suspect initially ordered the clerk to get down on the floor, and he appeared to have been pretending to have a gun in his pocket. When he did not achieve the desired response, the suspect took the broom handle from the clerk and struck him with it. The suspect then fled on foot with various jewelry items and an undisclosed sum of money. The clerk was not seriously injured; however, he did incur an abrasion on his head from the assault. The suspect appears to be a white male, approximately 6’1” in height, with a slim build. He was wearing a two-tone black and blue jacket with a hood. The suspect concealed his face with a plastic grocery bag. A photo taken from surveillance video is included in this release. The actual surveillance video can be viewed on the K.P.D.
