On August 20, 2016 at approximately 8:25 PM, the Kingsport Police Department was notified of a shooting incident in the vicinity of Regions Bank and Buffalo Wild Wings, located at 1717 and 1721 East Stone Drive respectively, in Kingsport. Multiple Officers from the K.P.D. Patrol and Criminal Investigations Divisions responded to the scene.
Prior to their arrival, a 22 year old black male victim was transported by acquaintances to an area medical facility for emergency treatment of multiple serious gunshot wounds. He has since been discharged from the hospital.
Based upon multiple witness accounts, a review of surveillance video footage from surrounding businesses, and a thorough assessment of the crime scene, Detectives were able to piece together the course of events and determine that a lone black male suspect attacked the victim in the parking lot, shooting him multiple times, in a deliberate attempt to kill him in retaliation over a past disagreement.
Through further investigation, the suspect was positively identified as Kerrieth Deshaun Price of Brooklyn, New York. A warrant was promptly secured for his arrest, charging him with Criminal Attempt to Commit First Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony.
Detectives learned that, following the shooting, Mr. Price had fled the Kingsport area, returning home to Brooklyn, New York. On August 30, 2016, with invaluable assistance from the United States Marshals Service, he was apprehended in New York and incarcerated in that jurisdiction awaiting extradition back to Tennessee.
As this remains an ongoing investigation, and in the interest of not tainting future prosecution, no additional details will be released at this time.
