GENERAL NARRATIVE |
On the morning of June 1, 2015 Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to Hunter Wright Stadium, located at 800 Granby Road in Kingsport, in reference to a burglary that had occurred sometime over the preceding weekend. Workers arrived to find that a hole had been cut in the chain link fence behind one of the advertising banners to gain access to the ball park. Once inside, the suspect broke into two equipment sheds and stole the following:
1) Exmark Mower ($1,500 value) 2) Two Stihl Backpack Blowers ($500 each/$1,000 total value) 3) Echo Weedeater ($375 value) After a review of surveillance video footage, Detectives learned that the burglary occurred on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at approximately 11:45 PM, and the suspect in question was a white male adult. On June 4, 2015, K.P.D. issued a news release, which included a photo of the suspect taken from that footage, asking for assistance in his identification. During the course of the investigation, James R. Benton, was identified as the suspect in question. On July 28, 2015 at approximately 11:30 AM, Mr. Benton was located in the parking lot of a gas station on Airport Parkway in Kingsport. He was subsequently arrested, charged with Burglary, and confined in the Kingsport City Jail pending arraignment. |
