KPD e-News Release: K.P.D. Searching for Suspects Who Shot Windshield of Moving Vehicle
GENERAL NARRATIVE |
On June 17, 2014 at approximately 6:30 AM, a Nickelsville, VA resident was on her way to work. Just after entering the City of Kingsport, she drove up the ramp from southbound Lynn Garden Drive to eastbound I-26. As she was traveling along the interstate entrance ramp, she observed two males standing on the side of the roadway. Without provocation, one of these individuals pointed a large black handgun at her windshield and fired a shot. A projectile struck the driver’s side of the windshield leaving a small indentation in the glass. The suspects then ran into the woods nearby. In fear for her life, the victim ducked her head under her steering wheel and fled the area.
The victim later recalled not actually hearing a gunshot. This detail coupled with her description of the weapon and the minimal damage to the windshield has led detectives to believe that the shot was fired from a high powered pellet gun rather than an actual firearm. The suspects were both described as white males in their late teens or early twenties, of average height, weight, and build. One of the suspects had brown hair and was wearing a red shirt and jeans, while the other was wearing a dark shirt and jeans. Further investigation has determined that a green Subaru Outback has been seen the past few days, parked during the morning hours in a cul-de-sac of an adjacent subdivision. Area residents advised that the vehicle did not belong to anybody who lived in the neighborhood. An individual observed driving this vehicle matches the general description of one of the suspects in the shooting incident. This appears to be a completely random act. Detectives are asking for assistance from the public in hopes of quickly identifying these two suspects. Anyone with any information regarding this incident or the suspects is asked to contact the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111. |
