Kingsport Emergency Communications District to Hold Flag Raising Ceremony at New 911 Center for National Telecommunicators Week.
KINGSPORT – The construction of Kingsports new 9-1-1 Center on Unicoi Street is now complete.‚ The Kingsport Emergency Communications District will hold a flag raising ceremony on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 2:00 PM.‚ Following the ceremony, area media representatives are welcomed and encouraged to tour the new state of the art facility.
This ceremony has been scheduled in conjunction with National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, which is being celebrated during the week of April 12-18, 2015 to honor emergency communications specialists across the country.‚ Emergency Communications Specialists, commonly known as dispatchers, are a critical, but often overlooked, component of the public safety mission.
Kingsport Central Dispatch will not be immediately moving into the new 9-1-1 Center.‚ A new public safety radio communications system is in the process of being implemented across Sullivan County.‚ Kingsport Central Dispatch will begin operating out of the new facility as soon as the new radio system is ready to go online later this year.‚ An official dedication ceremony will be held at that time.
