Kingsport City Schools Announces Administrative Appointments
KINGSPORT – Kingsport City Schools has announced a change in administrative appointments, effective February 5, 2014.
Ms. Shanna Hensley has been named principal at Cora Cox Academy for the remainder of the 2013-14 school year. Ms. Hensley has served as principal at Kennedy Elementary School since July 2012. She assumes the position previously held by Dr. Stephanie Tweed, who is currently on a leave of absence from Cora Cox Academy for the Spring 2014 semester.
Ms. Hensley has previously served as an Assistant to the Principal at Johnson Elementary and Lincoln Elementary, as well as a classroom teacher at Johnson Elementary. She has a B.S. in Early Childhood Education and a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis, both from East Tennessee State University. Ms. Hensley has worked for Kingsport City Schools for a total of ten years.
With Ms. Hensleys transfer to Cora Cox Academy, Kennedy Associate Principal Ms. Christy Free will assume the role of principal at Kennedy Elementary for the remainder of the 2013-14 school year. Previously, she served as a math teacher and Tennessee Common Core Coach at Ross N. Robinson Middle School. Her experience also includes secondary math instruction at Volunteer High School in Hawkins County. Ms. Free holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering and Mathematics from the University of Tennessee, a Masters Degree in Secondary Education from Milligan College, and an Ed.S. in Administration from Lincoln Memorial University.
Kingsport City Schools is a public school system located in Kingsport, Tenn., serving students in Sullivan and Hawkins county. The district is comprised of 13 schools, including a Pre-K, eight elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school and an alternative school; with total enrollment reaching 6,500 students.
