Fall Tree Fund ceremony honors family members and friends
KINGSPORT – Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Keep Kingsport Beautiful and the City of Kingsport will hold a tree planting ceremony on Friday, November 6 at noon, to recognize family members and friends through the Tree Fund. Fourteen Yoshino Cherry trees will be planted at the intersection of Netherland Inn Road and Stone Drive.
Attendees should plan to park at Crossroads United Methodist Church, 200 Bays Cove Trail.
Each spring and fall, trees are bought and planted around town on public lands using donations from those who have honored or remembered a special person by contributing to the Tree Fund. Part of the ceremony includes volunteers reading names of the people being honored and remembered, as well as the names of the contributors.
Since 1986, hundreds of people have been recognized and remembered through the Tree Fund. Hamlett-Dobson is the official sponsor of this community event. Their participation allows more trees to be planted, which act as living tributes to those honored in addition to improving the environment. The City of Kingsport provides the labor, mulch and ground cover, and Keep Kingsport Beautiful coordinates the Tree Fund program.
